Marlins Ambush Dodgers, Win Old-Fashioned Slugfest
In an old-fashioned slugfest on Friday night, the Miami Marlins upset the Los Angeles Dodgers 10-6 at Dodger Stadium.
Marlins Mash Early and Often
The Marlins jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning off Dodgers starter Julio Urias.
After Brian Anderson led off with a walk, Jon Berti singled and stole second. Garrett Cooper then drove in both runners with a double to right field.
The Marlins added another run in the second inning when Jorge Soler homered to right field.
Dodgers Rally, but Marlins Hold On
The Dodgers chipped away at the Marlins' lead, scoring two runs in the third inning and one run in the fourth inning.
However, the Marlins responded with two more runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead to 6-3.
The Dodgers made it a one-run game in the seventh inning when Mookie Betts hit a solo home run.
Marlins' Bullpen Shuts Down Dodgers
The Marlins' bullpen came up big in the late innings, shutting down the Dodgers' offense.
Dylan Floro pitched a scoreless eighth inning, and Anthony Bender worked a perfect ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.
Marlins Win Series Opener
With the win, the Marlins took the series opener against the Dodgers.
The two teams will face off again on Saturday night at Dodger Stadium.
